INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER (ISP)
Your ISP is the company that is responsible for connecting a phone line to the internet. This typically includes the provision of a modem and the conversion of an existing telephone - line that is used only for voice transfer (from phone to phone) - to become an internet compatible line that can be used for transferring data across the internet.
Your ISP can also host your web site and email data. These two services are mutually exclusive and are not always provided by the same supplier. For example, you may have your email hosted with a local Canberra web hosing company, and have Telstra Bigpond supply your broadband connection. The decision needs to be made based on the level of service you will require from your provider, the amount of uploads and downloads that you make while on the internet and the amount of users using your account.
